Mr Hugh Duberly, Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, with HM Queen Elizabeth II
Mr Duberly gave a very interesting and enjoyable talk to Great Staughton WI in February 2013.
Although a chilly day in April, we had a wonderful time at Highclere Castle, AKA Downton Abbey, the home of the Earls and Countesses of Carnarvon for over 300 years. The castle was designed by Sir Charles Barry in 1842, and you can see its similarity to the Houses of Parliament, also designed by Barry.
This image shows only seven WI ladies, although we started off with a full coach - the others were somewhere within the castle walls, its tearooms, or its vast gardens.
